Legendary and internationally renowned film actress from Bangladesh, Farida Akhter Babita received “International Women’s Day 2021 Award” for her continued contribution to the development of women. The award ceremony was organized by Distressed Children & Infants International and Cambridge Rotary Club on the occasion of International Women’s Day 2021. Babita attended the program virtually. She was introduced by and given the award by Denise Jillson, Executive Director of the Harvard Square Business Association:

Babita Akhtar is an internationally renowned film actress who has received critical acclaim for her portrayal of women who face the hardships, oppression and social injustice prevalent in third world countries. She is a popular actress in Bangladeshi films of the 1970s. She is best known for her performance in Satyajit Ray’s Distant Thunder, a novel adaptation about the Bengal famine of 1943, which won the Golden Bear prize at the 1973 Berlin Film Festival.
